Itinerary

Day 1

Airport > Dambulla

Arrival at the Bandaranayaka International Airport. Ayubowan...!! (May you have a Long Life)
On arrival the clients will transfer Dambulla. Overnight stay In a Hotel in Dambulla.

Day 2

Dambulla

Breakfast the hotel hotel. After Breakfast visit the Golden Temple.

Golden Temple of Dambulla: A sacred pilgrimage site for 22 centuries, this cave monastery, with its five sanctuaries, is the largest, best-preserved cave-temple complex in Sri Lanka. The Buddhist mural paintings (covering an area of 2,100 m2) are of particular importance, as are the 157 statues. Another interesting fact is that the Archeologists state that this cave and other numerous caves around the main rock had been in use for dwelling in pre historic times too from the evidence found so far.

The walking is flat although it can be hot and humid. Proceed to Sigiriya, where we have lunch. In the afternoon visit the Rock Fortress (Sigiriya)

Sigiriya: Built by an obsessed monarch in the 5th century, Sigiriya or Lion Rock is an astonishing feat of engineering and construction. The most striking portion of Sigiriya, a terracotta and grey core of rock set in the cultural heart of Sri Lanka. Designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1982, Sigiriya is Asia’s best preserved city of the first millennium, showing complex urban planning around the base of the rock, combined with sophisticated engineering and irrigation skills in the palace perched on the summit. It is considered it to be one of the oldest tourist attractions in the world with visitors recording their impressions in some of the earliest-known graffiti.

Day 3

Knuckles Range

Breakfast at the hotel. After Breakfast drive to Illukkumbura; walk the Manigala Trail in the Knuckles Range. The next two days takes us across the famous Knuckles Mountain Range

Knuckles Mountain Range : Its highest fall in Sri Lanka through a path in the mountain with panoramic view in the tea plantation and tea plantation villages and we will go to a small and beautiful water fall in the forest where we will swim and picnic. After that we will walk through various types of forests not experienced by everyday tourists. Track through the Devils Staircase is one of the most popular hiking in the hills of Sri Lanka. This trail goes over old dilapidated estate roads through many estates. The two most popular points on the route is the “V cut”, a channel cut through the hill to allow the road to pass through.
Named after the shape of the peaks, there are more than 35 mountains in the range. We start early today as it's a long day and we have a three hour drive to the start of our walk. The road winds its way slowly into the foothills to the start of the Manigala Trail. The walk starts with an easy descent past rice paddies through the villages of Pitawala Patana and Etanwala. Descending all the way to the river we cross a small bridge and start to climb up through more farmland. We finally emerge at the top of an escarpment where we get great views of the surrounding countryside. It's a hot walk and can be very humid and we will be glad of the small breeze at the top. An easy trail takes us along the top of the escarpment to Manigala Top at 1115m, the high point of today. We then descend all the way to the Illikumbura Forest Office. Some of the descent is a little steep. From the Forest Office it's a 20 minute walk to our campsite by the river where the clients can bathe in the cool refreshing river water.

Day 4

Meemure

Breakfast at the Camp site / Hotel. Walk through forests to, transfer to Orutota.

Narangamuwa Temple: A Quick drive to the Narangamuwa Temple at Ranamuregama. On the way passing rice filds and coconut groves and enter a heavily forested area. The trail climbs gently for an hour and then levels out and undulates though this wonderful forest. The only sounds we can hear is the birdsong all around us. We emerge from the forest at Meemure village and looking back we get great views of the pointed peak of Lakegala.

After lunch we take a truck or trishaws for a bumpy 90 minute ride to Corbetts Gap, a famous viewpoint. Our bus will meet us here for the 90 minute drive to our hotel at Orutota overlooking the Victoria Reservoir. Walking Distance 14.0 Km

Day 5

Kandy

After Breakfast proceed to Kandy

Kandy: Kandy is the charming hill capital of Sri Lanka and the island’s second largest city. Located 129 Km North-East of Colombo.

In the evening proceed to the world famous Dalada Maligawa. (Temple of the tooth Relic)

Dalada Maligawa: For Buddhists, Kandy is the sacred city. The focal point is the Dalada Maligawa also known as the temple of the tooth, where the Sacred Tooth Relic of Lord Buddha is enshrined. There are many shrines and temples in and around Kandy, where you will see rare paintings, frescoes, wood and stone carvings.

After The visit to the Temple we proceed to the Cultural show.

The Cultural Show: The cultural show is famous among tourists to the hill capital, Kandy. The show is performed in the evening and runs for approximately one hour, during which the spectators are held spellbound by the colourful acts on show.

Proceed to the hotel for overnight stay.

Day 6

Dickoya

ABreakfast at the hotel. After Breakfast transfer the clients to Dickoya. The clients will stay 2 nights there in a small hotel / Guest house. On a clear day we can see the outline of Adams Peak in the distance. In the pilgrim season (December-May) we have the day to relax or have a short walk around the lake (approx. 6km) and we leave around midnight for the walk up Adams Peak. The walk will take around 4 hours and we should reach the top with the many pilgrims at sunrise.

Day 7

Ascend Adams peak

ABreakfast at the hotel. After Breakfast transfer the clients to Dickoya. The clients will stay 2 nights there in a small hotel / Guest house. On a clear day we can see the outline of Adams Peak in the distance. In the pilgrim season (December-May) we have the day to relax or have a short walk around the lake (approx. 6km) and we leave around midnight for the walk up Adams Peak. Day 8

Nuwara Eliya

Breakfast at the Hotel. After Breakfast walk around the town and explore the town. This morning we have a wonderful drive through tea plantation districts to Nuwara Eliya.

Nuwara Eliya: This was the favourite hill station during the British era and situated in the cool highland air at 1890m has a very British feel to it. Known locally as 'Little England' it is dotted with British style houses, hotels and a racecourse. There will be an optional walk into the hills around the town and also time to explore the bazaar.

Overnight in Nuwara Eliya.

Day 9

Horton Plains

Breakfast at the Hotel. After Breakfast proceed to Horton Plains. We drive to Horton Plains

Horton Plains: a large plateau over 2,000m high, overlooked by the second and third highest peaks in Sri Lanka. The scenery is beautiful and the best way to explore is on foot. We trek through the rolling grasslands, seeing forest, unusual wildlife, such as the sambar deer and purple faced monkey to 'World's End', one of the most stunning sights in Sri Lanka where the ground drops 1050m to the plains (approx. 7km).

Day 10

Ella

Breakfast at the hotel
Todays Highlights - Daywalk around Ella; visit the Ravana Waterfalls and Ella Gap. We drive to Karandegolla, stopping en route to visit the spectacular Ravana Waterfalls. We start walking at Pitawala and trek through paddy fields and vegetable farms to the beautiful village of Liyangahawela. We then walk on to Kithalhalla and climb up to a rocky area where we get stunning views of the waterfalls. We continue on to Ella Gap

Ella: where we have spectacular views of the coastal plain nearly 1,000m below. Almost the whole of the southern part of the island is in view and on a particularly clear day the the ocean is visible.

Return in the late afternoon to our hotel in Ella. Rest and relax at the hotel.

Day 11

Yala National Park

After Breakfast proceed to Yala National Park. Afternoon game drive. We now head south out of the hills to Kataragama down on the plains; this is our base for visiting Yala National Park.

Yala National Park : is the most visited and second largest national park in Sri lanka. Yala combines a strict nature reserve with a national park. Divided into 5 blocks, the park has a protected area of nearly 130,000 hectares of land consisting of light forests, scrubs, grasslands, tanks and lagoons. Day 10

Kataragama Temple

After Breakfast at the hotel proceed to the Kataragama Temple.

Kataragama Temple: This temple is a pilgrimage place for both Hindu and Buddhists, who come to worship here in the early mornings and evenings. The colourful and noisy temple is always busy. From the temple we drive to Tissamaharama lake where In the late afternoon we drive to the coast for overnight stay.

Day 13

Free day to relax on the beach or by the pool. Please note there are a few optional tours that can be done during the day. Boat ride through mangrove swamps to a cinnamon plantation whale watching off Dondra head near Mirrissa.

Day 14

To Galle; transfer to Colombo.

We set off early today and drive along the coastal road to the historic port of Galle. Dating back to the 17th century, and now a UNESCO world heritage site, we visit the Galle Fort. We then follow the coast for the drive back to Colombo visiting a turtle hatchery on the way. We reach Colombo in the late afternoon and check into our hotel.

Day 15

After Breakfast proceed to the airport in time for the flight back home.
